Media Punch

In a world before social media, most of us got our ‘news’ - a daily gorging of information on events, politics, celebrity, business, arts, sports, culture, weather forecasts, scientific developments, obituaries, service reviews, gossip, cartoons and for many, highly fabricated hyper-sensationalized stories that were more entertainment than news - from THE NEWSPAPERS.

Whether it was about our local communities or the wider world at large, news media was the most common form of Information Dissemination.

And what a powerful wieldy machine it was.

Media Punch was a reaction to that power; a reaction to what seemed even then an inexhaustible treadmill of oppressive biases: stories, rules, opinions, gossip all packaged up in “civilized” society’s Break-Fast ritual. A series of meditative explorations, these paintings smother the medium itself in the work, both revealing and concealing the ‘events of the day’.
